On reading about the successes of businesspeople I am often struck by how much emphasis is put on rapid growth and financial gain. I see this as short-term gain which contrasts sharply with our philosophy. In running our business we are more interested in being successful through providing a service that is of benefit to others.

We derive inspiration from our parents and grandparents whose time frame for making a return on investment lasted a lifetime or as long as generations. In today’s world we expect instant rewards, expecting our businesses and investments to double and triple in value in a matter of years. I too have been guilty of such thinking and it is only by looking at where we came from that I am drawn back to the principles of our ancestors which is simply that value is built up over the long term, to create something of substance, during which time we ourselves mature and develop to a point where we can humbly appreciate the reward.
